Bio:

I’ve been cosplaying since 2000-2001. I’ve made a lot of costumes, but many of them haven’t been for me, but for friends, so I don’t have as much to post here from past years.

I have a background in theater, and spent my teen years in a high school program for costuming in a magnet school. Around the time I was learning to make costumes in class, I was getting into anime. I’m not involved with stage work anymore, but I really value the skills I learned there. I am currently a student, studying studio art and hope to eventually have a Masters in some art field.

I like to sew.  I love making things in general. Cosplay is great because it gives me an outlet for a number of different skills I enjoy developing. I like to collect figures, as well as play video games occasionally. Obviously, I watch a fair amount of anime too!

My interest in conventions comes from attending Star Wars cons, and that spilled over into anime when I entered high school. I’m still a Star Wars fan at heart, but I don’t go to as many conventions for it anymore.

When I’m not working on things for school or making a costume, I’m usually reading something. My favorite subject is history and I always have a stack of books waiting to be read.

My favorite food is indian or middle eastern. I’m not a good cook, so it’s probably fitting that I have more tea than food ingredients in my pantry. I’m very fond of teas, to the point of it almost being a hobby itself for me.

I love botanical gardens. They are one of my favorite things to visit on the weekend (too bad there aren’t any of note where I’m living at the moment ;_; I have drive way out to go now.) Natural history and art museums are pretty high on my list as well. I’m not a big movie goer, and I don’t watch much TV, so I’m sort of out of the loop when those topics come up. I can’t tell you anything about LOST or Stargate. However, if you like looking at perennials and oil paintings, we might have something in common! Otherwise, I’m probably boring.

Questions?:

Feel free to email me about questions regarding my costumes. I make a lot of mistakes when I’m constructing things, so maybe I can keep someone else from going down the same road from time to time, and I like being able to help. I’m not really capable of walking someone through making a costume online, though. Bearing in mind my inability to articulate how to do some things (like how you should pattern something out, or how to make something quite complicated… it’s almost impossible for me to help someone with something like that online), I’d be happy to help where I can. If you have a very specific question, I’m more likely to be able to answer it. Broad questions like “How can I make a Saber costume?” are just too general for me to be able to take the time to help you with. Something like “How do you apply trim?” is something more specific, and I’ll get back to you on that sort of thing.

If it’s not about construction, or you don’t mind sharing the question with others you can also ask me things on my formspring.
